How Dental Insurance Works
Every dental insurance policy is different. We’ll want to review your unique plan before we offer specific estimates. However, most dental insurers offer the most coverage for preventive dental exams and teeth cleanings. As more advanced dentistry services are required, patients receive a lower percentage of coverage from their insurer. The majority of insurance policies offer some combination of the following:
- 100% preventive care covered
- Minor restorative care around 70%-80% covered
- Major restorative care around 50%
What is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?
There are many differences between dental and medical insurance, but the main difference people notice is in the services they cover. Dental benefit plans place an emphasis on covering preventive care. Conversely, medical insurance usually provides the greatest amount of coverage for treatment to address chronic illnesses and emergencies.
In-Network VS Out of Network Dentistry
We are happy to accept both in-network and out of network dental insurance benefits. One of the advantages of dental insurance policies is that they allow the flexibility for patients to visit the dentist of their choice while still receiving some coverage.
In-Network Coverage
Medical insurance networks are extremely restrictive. They set strict rules for what providers will accept their benefits and what services you can receive. Dental insurance is much more flexible, and to be in your dental insurance network, our team simply needs to sign up with your insurer and agree to pricing that falls within the insurer’s maximum range for covered services. This means you’ll only pay the out of pocket percentage of treatment costs. We are in-network with the following plans:
- MetLife
- Assurant
- School Claims Services LLC
- Guardian
- Cigna
- Aetna
- Careington Care
- Principal
- Dentemax
- Delta
- Humana
- United Healthcare
- United Concordia
- UPMC Dental Advantage
Out of Network Coverage
If you don’t see your insurer listed above, we are likely not in-network with your policy. Our team will still be happy to process and file claims for out of network providers. While we don’t necessarily agree to fees that fall within the insurer’s maximums, our affordable dental treatment options are usually well within standard ranges for the area. If you’re ever worried about charges, let us know. We work hard to keep your out of pocket costs low, and we want to make sure you understand any additional fees before we begin treatment.
